小学部5年生のGENE、今年はついに「お泊まり学習」に挑戦！
行き先は、中津川。
バスに乗って、学校のお友達と先生たちと、1泊2日の旅です。
でも、いきなり「宿泊学習がありますよー」と言われても、
クラスの子たちは、
みんな「ぽかーーん」。
GENEもたぶん、こう思ったはず。
「ん？バスに乗って、本校？お風呂って……プールのこと？」
——そう、まずは理解から始まるのです。
お弁当を持って行くことは理解した！
何回かの事前学習を重ね、 GENEが最もインプットしたのは、おそらくこれ。
「お弁当を持って、バスに乗って、着いたところで食べる。」
……そこか。。。
ある夜、「明日は中津川だ」と思ったのか、
GENEはお弁当箱をキッチンにそっと出す。
「明日いるから、作ってね」
と言わんばかりに。
私「え、明日お弁当だったっけ？」 → 給食の日です。
朝になっても、お弁当モード全開で怒るGENE。
「そりゃそうだよね……先生が“お弁当持っていく”って言ってたもんね」
そんなやりとりを何度か繰り返すうちに、
どうやら「まだ本番じゃないらしい」と気づいたようです（笑）
荷物を預ける日、GENEの様子は？
出発の1週間前、学校に荷物を預ける日。
先生と一緒に荷物を確認して、当日まで学校で預かってくれるシステム。
私は思いました。
「行く気満々で、はしゃいで怒らないといいけど……」
ところがGENE、 準備していても淡々としていて、あまり関心なさそう。
バス停でも荷物は自分で持たず、静か。
「……あれ？中津川、理解してないのかな？」
バスが見えた瞬間、スイッチON！
そんな不安をよそに、 バスが見えた瞬間、GENEのスイッチがON！
ニッコニコで、リュックと旅行バッグを自分で持って
喜んでバスに乗り込んでいきました。
「なーんだ、ちゃんと分かってたんだ。そして……ウキウキじゃん！」
（ま、まだ当日じゃないけどね）
当日までの健康管理も大切に
本番に向けて、健康チェックシートを毎日提出中。
毎日、GENEの体調と向き合いながら、
「いつも通りのGENE」で中津川に行けるように、
家族でサポート中です。
（特に変わらず、いつも通り過ごしているだけですが笑）
GENEの持ち物
【毎日持っていくリュック】これに当日の荷物を入れていくよ。
【１週間前に預けたバック】これに余裕で入ったよ。
＊無印の仕分けケースに、「お風呂セット」「洗面セット」「キャンプファイヤーセット」「2日目の服セット」「パジャマ」「予備の服」「薬、水など」７つ位、入ったよ。
【薬のむ容器】こんなケースに、粉薬を水で溶かしてGENEに渡すと飲むよ。
なので、これも薬と一緒に持たせました。

GENE’s Excitement Builds Up for the School Trip to Nakatsugawa
In May, the students in the 5th grade at the special needs school began preparing for a school trip — an overnight learning excursion to Nakatsugawa, scheduled for June.
On the first day of the preparation lessons, the teacher explained:
“We’ll all get on a bus and go to Nakatsugawa for an overnight stay!”
The whole class just stared blankly.
Like… “What are you talking about??”
Maybe they thought it was just a regular trip to the main school campus by bus, like always?
And when the teacher mentioned a bath — did they think she meant the pool?
What GENE Learned Best Was…
After a few more lessons, it seems the thing GENE grasped the best was:
“Bring your lunch, get on the bus, and eat lunch when we arrive.”
Simple and clear. That stuck.
So whenever I told him,
“Tomorrow is a Nakatsugawa prep day,”
he’d go get his lunch box in the evening, place it in the kitchen, and say:
“Don’t forget to make lunch tomorrow!”
And I’d be like — “Wait, is tomorrow a no-lunch day??”
Check the schedule… Nope. It’s a school lunch day.
Even when I gently told him, “You don’t need a lunch tomorrow, GENE,”
he refused to give in.
The next morning, still demanding his lunch, getting frustrated.
Of course he would!
Because the teacher did say to bring one.
Slowly But Surely, He Got It
This went on for a few times.
Eventually, he seemed to realize —
“Oh, not yet.”
Then came the day when they dropped off their luggage — one week in advance.
At this school, students and teachers check the bags together a week ahead of the trip, and the school stores them safely until departure.
I was worried GENE might get overly excited and upset when he realized he wasn’t leaving that day…
But nope.
He helped pack, then looked totally disinterested.
When we took the bags to the bus stop, he didn’t even want to carry them.
“Hmm… maybe he didn’t fully understand what was happening?”
But then…
As soon as he saw the bus in the distance —
His face lit up with joy.
He grabbed his backpack and suitcase and climbed aboard, all smiles.
Turns out —
He did get it.
And he was excited.
(…Even though it still wasn’t the actual trip day. Yet.)
Final Countdown: Health Check & Packing
Every day leading up to the trip, we’ve been submitting a health checklist.
Making sure GENE stays healthy and well until the big day.
This is his gear for Nakatsugawa:
- 🎒 Backpack
- 🎒 Luggage bag
- 🧼 Items packed individually in labeled bags
- 💊 Medication and clear instructions on how and when to take them
Let’s hope GENE can head off to Nakatsugawa full of energy — and come home with a story to tell.
