夏の予定、決まりました。
この夏、我が家は「ひつじのショーン」に会いに行くことにしました。
場所は、滋賀県のローザンベリー多和田。
自閉症で重度知的障害のある息子GENEは、ひつじのショーンが大好き。
中でも、ショーンの世界に出てくる「困ってる感じのおじさん」がお気に入りの様子です（そこ？）。
問題発生。GENEの脳内は…「雪景色のショーン」
旅のことは、まだGENEには伝えていません。
代わりに、こっそりYouTubeでローザンベリーの動画を流してみたところ…
案の定、どんどんおすすめ動画が再生されて、
GENEがどハマりしたのは、雪景色のショーンエリア。
雪、大好きなんです。
冬になると「雪遊びに行こう」と毎日言ってくるくらいに。
期待と現実のギャップ。どう伝える？
GENEは動画の中の雪を指差して「これ、言って」と。
「ゆき」と答えると、満足げにうなずき、違う言葉を言おうものなら、”ゆき”と答えるまでエンドレス。
これ、「言葉の理解」以前に、ちょっとした危機です。
GENEの頭の中はもう、「夏休み＝雪の中のショーン」一択。
親としては、「そうじゃない夏のショーン」だと伝えたいけれど……
きっと、どれだけ説明してもGENEの中の世界は変わらない気がします。
動画から学んでしまう、GENEのすごさ。
しかもGENE、動画を見ているうちにローザンベリーの構造を把握してしまったようで、
「ここ」と「そこ」には行きたい、あれを見たい、というのが、彼の中ではもう決まっている感じ。
言葉では言わなくても、行き先のイメージは完全に出来上がっている様子。
親の予想より何歩も先を行くGENE。
どうする？どうなる？ひつじのショーン作戦。
どうしよう。
GENEのイメージと現実が食い違ったとき、パニックになるかな？
でも、意外と大丈夫かも？？
…と、親の妄想と不安が交錯しています。
でも、旅はまだ続きます。
温泉付きの宿で、GENEもごきげんに？
ショーンのあとは、滋賀の温泉旅館「雄山荘」へ。
琵琶湖を望む里山にあるこのお宿は、お部屋に温泉、食事は個室、さらにプールまで！
「絶対、GENEも気に入るはず」って思える宿に出会えたから、あとはショーンの雪問題だけ…。

He Thinks He’s Meeting Shaun in the Snow — But We’re Going in July.
Our Summer Plan: Shaun the Sheep!
This summer, we’ve decided to visit Shaun the Sheep Farm Garden at Rozan Berry Tawada in Shiga, Japan.
GENE, my son with severe autism and intellectual disability, absolutely loves Shaun.
Especially that one grumpy guy who always looks troubled — classic GENE humor.
And Then Came the Snow… (On YouTube)
We haven’t told GENE about the trip yet.
Instead, I casually showed him a few YouTube videos of the park.
As always, the algorithm did its magic — and soon GENE had discovered his favorite:
A winter-themed video of Shaun’s snowy wonderland.
GENE loves snow.
So much that he regularly tells me, “Let’s go play in the snow,” even in summer.
“Yuki!” — The Answer Must Be Snow.
In the video, GENE points at the snowy scenes and prompts me to say the word.
If I say “snow” (yuki), he smiles proudly.
If I say anything else? We’re stuck in a loop until I get it right.
At this point, it’s not even about language comprehension.
It’s about the fact that… GENE truly believes we’re going to see Shaun in the snow this summer.
GENE’s Brain: 3 Steps Ahead of Me
To make things even more interesting, he’s now memorized the layout of Rozan Berry through the videos.
He doesn’t say it, but I just know —
in his mind, he’s already decided:
We’ll go there, then there, and see that.
GENE’s internal GPS and visual memory are incredible.
He’s way ahead of me on this trip planning.
Should I Tell Him? Or Just… Wing It?
How do I break it to him?
That there won’t be snow in July?
Or maybe… I don’t.
Maybe I just go along with his expectations, and let the real-world experience speak for itself.
He’s surprised us before.
A Perfect Ending: A Night at a Hot Spring Inn
After Shaun, we’ll head to Yuzanso, a hot spring inn near Lake Biwa.
We’ll stay in a room with a private onsen bath, enjoy dinner in a private dining room,
and yes — there’s even a pool.
GENE’s going to love it. I can feel it.
